Hello, my lazy friends. Today, 2 little people had chocolate cravings and I, voted Today's Queen of the Lazy, couldn't be bothered to actually get off my butt and BAKE a proper chocolate cake. Why bake one when it'll take you hours to find a recipe you're dying to try? But then some hidden energy I forgot I had today nudged me and reminded me of this superquick-supersneaky chocolate cake that you make in the microwave in 3 minutes. A little bizarre, yes, but then again people are using their microwaves for everything now so I succumbed. Is it satisfying? Yes. Does it make you smile? Yes. Should you leave it to get cold? No. This is not a save-for-later thing to make. You make it because you have needs. Demanding needs. Needs that need instant gratification. Yum! This is not for you if you're looking for "the best cake ever" (which you'll never find because it doesn't exist).
Microcupcake
You'll need:
3 tablespoons of all purpose flour
2 tablespoons of unsweetened cocoa powder
2.5-3 tablespoons of sugar
1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon
1 small egg
1/4 teaspoon of baking powder
3 tablespoons of melted butter
1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract
2.5 tablespoons of milk
Icing sugar for dusting (I used vanilla dusting sugar.)
Put all the dry ingredients together in your mug then mix in all the wet ingredients. Mix vigorously (such a funny word) with a spoon for about a minute and a half or until all is combined and silky. Do a little dance while it cooks for 2.5-3 minutes in your microwave. It depends on the power of your microwave. Don't overcook it. It should look a little fudgy and moist. Happy lazy day! I'm definitely trying this out next time with mint. *evil grin*

Attack.
I've been seeing these molten lava cakes in cups all over lately. I know this is not the same but come on, microwave for a few minutes, I'm in! Quick fix is definitely a plus. Loving your photos and the amount of them per post as well. Nice work.
ReplyDeleteRyan: I haven't yet attempted to make chocolate fondant (lava cake) and yes, this is far from it! It's not quite "disgustingly good" but it's good enough. ;)
ReplyDeleteSometimes the allure of chocolate is just too strong to ignore. Call me selfish, but this looks like the perfect way to satisfy it, whatever the time of day or night, without having to share a darn thing.
ReplyDeleteBarbara: Thanks for visiting. This really does do the trick for cakey-chocolatey cravings.
ReplyDeleteI remember when I first had my microwave, this was the first thing we made. It's just so good!If you won't mind I'd love to guide Foodista readers to this post.Just add the foodista widget to the end of this post and it's all set, Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThis looks...interesting. It reminds me of those Sarah Lee (I think?) microwavable desserts that you basically just add water to, throw in the micro for like two minutes and they come out pretty darn good. Good for when you're about to kill someone and chocolate is the only cure.
ReplyDeleteHey Stephanie,
ReplyDeleteThat's the right word for it. "Interesting". :)
I just made these while my boyfriend was in the shower and he just loved them... easy to prepare, even easier to make and they tasted delicious. We drizzled yogurt and strawberries over the top and they were scrumptious.
ReplyDeleteNice! I made one of these a couple days ago but mine didn't have eggs. I have to say, this one looks pretty good!!
ReplyDeleteWould you mind checking out my blog? :D http://ajscookingsecrets.blogspot.com/
I've never actually tried a microwave cake. They usually look dry and very un-cakelike, but that last picture you posted has me dying to trying this like... as soon as I finish typing this. Thanks for the recipe!
ReplyDeleteHey Kerry, it dries out if you leave it out for a bit. It's definitely very moist though when it comes out (which is when you should eat it)! :) Happy microwave-baking.
ReplyDeleteIts about 11 at night here and I stumbled across this and just could'nt resist. Im going to be making a lot more of these little guys! THANKS!
ReplyDeleteI cannot stand these cakes. I don't know how others do.
ReplyDeleteBut by all means, it is very fast. Unfortunately, I am far pickier than I thought.
Fortunately though, I am all for boxed cake mix, it tastes fine, it just makes a big mess to eat since it's so crumbly. :)
I tried another version of these the other day - yum, fantastic for a quick chocolate fix! I'm trying different combinations until I find the perfect version - even though I'm with you and think that the perfect version will never be found! It's fun trying out different variations in the pursuit of perfection!
ReplyDeletethis cake is horrible. not only does it taste like a chicken poop, but it burnt my boyfriends tongue...now we're going to the hospital...THANKS!

Dear Anonymous with nothing constructive to say, here's your reply. I hope you're well. http://www.buttered-up.com/2011/05/vermicelli-and-tuesday-letter.html
ReplyDeleteoooh, i've been making a very similar version of this for a while now.
ReplyDeletei'm such a sucker for quickie cakes... probably why my tush has grown to roughly the size of a small island nation.
as far as the cakes getting dry quickly, i solved that problem by drizzling a little milk over it. it moistens up the cake and, to me, simulates melted ice cream.
c'est la vie... cheers!
Hey Angie,
ReplyDeleteThanks for dropping by and for leaving the tip about milk. I'll be trying it out next time. Merci beaucoup. Cheers. :)
Sara, thank you, thank you, I am speechless> what I can say "it is just a heaven of chocolate in a cup".
ReplyDeleteHello Sarah.. Loved the recipie.. can i use a substitute for egg? thanks...
ReplyDeleteHi Karuna,
ReplyDeleteI haven't tried substituting the egg in this recipe but with a simple Google search, you'll find that there are many eggless microwave chocolate cake recipes out there. Good luck and thanks for commenting! :)
This is now our fave quickie pud! I divide the mix into 3 ramekins, my sis makes hot chocolate fudge sauce, and in five minutes we have a delicious pud. It tastes much better than chocolate fudge cakes I've bought from the shop.
ReplyDeleteTHIS IS THE MOST DISTGUSTING THING IVE EVEAH TASTED!
ReplyDeleteMug cakes rock! I used to make them all the time, but I no longer have a microwave. Actually, mug cakes are a reason I don't want a microwave - I was making them almost every day!
